IRELAND, DUBLIN
We lived in Ireland for ten years, and our children were born there. But in our hearts we always knew we wanted them to grow up where we grew up ourselves. Today we live in the Kaunas district again, and it was the best decision for our family.

In Norway we worked hard, saved and planned for the future. But when our third child was born, we realised we wanted all of them to grow up close to their grandparents, close to nature, close to everything we loved as children. We came back to the Kaunas district and are now building a house where we grew up.

We lived in Canada for almost forty years – we raised our children there and spent most of our lives there. But we wanted to grow old at home, among our own people and our native language. We returned to Babtai, where Vytautas grew up, and finally feel truly at home.

Meet the people who present the Kaunas district to the world and become a bridge between home and a new life.

From Domeikava to Singapore – that is the professional path of Arūnas Karlonas, whose life and career are inseparable from the Kaunas district. He was born and grew up here, started a family here, and still calls Domeikava home. Together with his wife Aušra he is raising three children.
His professional path also began in the Kaunas district. Arūnas took his first steps in public service as Elder of Domeikava, and his work on the Kaunas District Municipal Council gave him valuable experience and helped him grow as a person and a leader.
His career continued at the Kaunas County Governor’s Administration and the Lithuanian Innovation Agency, where he helped promote technological innovation and business development. Since 2015 he has applied his experience internationally – serving as Lithuania’s commercial attaché in China and Israel – and today he represents Lithuanian business interests in Singapore.
With many years of experience in innovation, business and economic diplomacy, Arūnas helps strengthen international partnerships and create new opportunities for cooperation.
Although his work has taken him to the far corners of the world, the Kaunas district remains his home. As an Honorary Ambassador of the Kaunas district, Arūnas aims to raise the profile of his native region internationally, showcase its potential and build new bridges of cooperation between the Kaunas district and the world.
